Introducing the VISUALISTA Digest

Updated: Oct 2

Visualista launches a new regular editorial digest spotlighting the very best of British interiors publishing. In our May edition, we focus on five leading print design titles: The World of Interiors, House & Garden, ELLE Decoration, Homes & Gardens, and its sister magazine Livingetc.

This digest is designed to help designers, studios, and brands navigate the fast-moving and competitive landscape of the UK interiors media — highlighting editorial opportunities, thematic focuses, and standout features each month.

The World of Interiors Digest

the world of interior may 2025 cover

Editor’s Letter

Let’s begin with the icon! The editor's letter in The World of Interiors is always a standout, and this one is no exception. Emily Tobin, still relatively new to the role, having been at the helm for just over a year, reflects on the evolving landscape of the magazine. This issue marks the end of the beloved Table section, which has run for more than three years, a fitting end to a chapter. Looking ahead, Emily shares exciting news, including the launch of the One Lasting Thing writing competition in partnership with Montblanc—an invitation for designers and readers alike to reflect on the objects and spaces that hold lasting significance.

This Month’s Focus

Kitchen and bathroom spaces take centre stage this month, reimagined with sensuous materiality. True to The World of Interiors’ mission to inspire, the issue features three beautifully styled editorial shoots, each rich in colour, texture, and detail, showcasing the latest products in imaginative settings. Adding depth, a series of sketches from architects and designers present clever and original kitchen design solutions. As ever, this curated and finely tailored selection makes the magazine irresistible; once you open it, you won’t want to put it down.

Exhibitions & Design Highlights

The World of Interiors turns its attention to the leading events in the world of collectible design and decorative arts. The magazine spotlights TEFAF New York and The Treasure House Fair — two standout destinations for exceptional craftsmanship and historical treasures. Additionally, the magazine offers a deeper exploration of handmade excellence by highlighting the upcoming London Craft Week. These events speak directly to the magazine’s core values: a reverence for tradition, craft and a love of process.

Design Trends (Without Saying “Trends”)

The World of Interiors may not speak overtly about trends, and the word itself rarely appears in its pages. Yet make no mistake: the magazine is deeply attuned to the cultural currents shaping design conversations. Take, for instance, the Table section with curated selection of products with cherries. In this case it’s hard to ignore the parallel with Pinterest’s 2025 trend report, where “Cherry Coded” emerged as a top aesthetic — Coincidence? Perhaps. But it’s far more likely that the editorial team, always discreet in its cues, keeps a sharp eye on platforms like Pinterest, translating mass digital desire into something refined. In short, the magazine doesn’t follow trends—it absorbs, filters, and reinterprets them with a cultivated, editorial intelligence.

PR Insights for Interior Designers

While The World of Interiors often gives pride of place to exceptional UK-based projects, this month’s cover story ventures further afield—spotlighting an evocative Italian villa. All featured interiors appear in the highly coveted Visitors’ Book section, a cornerstone of the magazine known for its selectivity and eclecticism. The magazine doesn’t just showcase private residences; it celebrates the unusual, the eccentric, and the utterly distinctive—making it one of the most competitive and aspirational platforms for interior designers seeking to see their work in print.

PR Insights for Brands

The World of Interiors remains one of the most valuable platforms for brand visibility in the design world. With more editorial features highlighting standout products than any other interiors magazine, it consistently offers unparalleled opportunities for exposure.

Brands looking to align with this issue’s editorial direction—focused on kitchens and bathrooms—can find meaningful placement across several key features: ANTENNAE, ROUNDUP, TABLE, and NETWORK.

Editorial Shoot

Beyond mentions, the magazine frequently includes editorial shoots that thoughtfully incorporate selected products into richly styled narratives. This month’s issue presents three editorial shoots, but we would like to highlight a standout story styled by Miranda Sinclair and photographed by Anders Gramer, which transforms the everyday bathroom routine into a surreal and visually captivating experience.

Editor’s Letter

Editor Hatta Byng opens the May issue with a refreshing break from tradition—this month’s cover features a garden rather than a home interior, marking the magazine’s celebration of the Top 50 Garden and Landscape Designers of 2025.

Continuing this spirit of innovation, Hatta also announces a new competition in collaboration with Savills: The Project of 2026. Open to architects, interior designers, and visionary homeowners alike, the initiative invites submissions that showcase inspiring and original design stories. Submissions remain open until 21 May

This Month’s Focus: Gardens Take Centre StageThis issue is an ode to outdoor beauty. From the cover garden to expansive features curated by Garden Editor Claire Foster, House & Garden explores the full potential of landscape design with depth and sophistication. The magazine reinforces its reputation as the go-to source for refined exterior inspiration.

In addition, the Decorate section—led by Decoration Editor Remy Mishon—brings seasonal outdoor living to life, with features on garden furniture, lighting, and alfresco entertaining essentials. This issue also turns its attention indoors, showcasing new fabric and wallpaper collections through a stylish editorial shoot that highlights fresh patterns, palettes, and design direction.

Events & Exhibitions

The May issue spotlights standout events from the design and decorative arts calendar:

  • The Decorative Art Fair – A curated celebration of antiques and period style, shown in fresh and contemporary contexts.

  • London Art Ceramic – A showcase of clay’s expressive potential, highlighting sculptural forms and the artistry of ceramic design.

The Stories section in the May issue remains firmly rooted in gardens, though it also features four residential projects across the UK—alongside an Italian farmhouse imbued with distinctly English character. While the full project feature remains hardly achievable, House & Garden offers other meaningful paths to visibility.

A prime opportunity lies in The List, the magazine’s curated directory of leading design professionals. Each month, the editorial team highlights standout studios—this issue spotlights the work of Rebecca Simon’s studio.

Additionally, the newly announced Project of 2026 competition, in partnership with Savills, represents a rare opening: inviting both designers and homeowners to submit their most inspiring work. The magazine has committed to publishing the winning project—and there’s hope that a shortlist might be featured online, offering further opportunities for recognition.

PR Insights for Brands

With a strong focus on shopping, product news, and curated style, House & Garden continues to be a leading platform for brand visibility. The May issue places particular emphasis on outdoor living—highlighting furniture, lighting, heating, and garden structures across key sections such as Decorate Notebook and Insider News.

In addition, the magazine devotes significant editorial space to the latest fabric and textile collections. New designs are thoughtfully styled and photographed in editorial shoots, offering brands the opportunity to be featured in beautifully curated visual narratives that align with House & Garden’s sophisticated aesthetic.

Editorial Shoots

This month’s issue of House & Garden features two standout editorial shoots that blend storytelling with product showcase:

“Beauty and the Bees” — Styled by Ruth Sleightholme and photographed by Christopher Horwood, this shoot highlights new textile collections from leading British brands. The styling embraces garden-inspired motifs, echoing the issue’s outdoor theme.

PR Insights for Interior Designers

With Italian design taking centre stage, it’s no surprise that the cover story features a stylish study space in a Roman apartment by Italian studio Strata. Even the featured Parisian apartment by Hauvette & Madani carries a distinctly Italian flair. Adding to the Italian focus, the Destination section highlights Casa Brera, Milan’s newest hotel designed by Patricia Urquiola—who, it must be said, is having a major PR moment this spring with her work featured widely across design magazines.

While the Spaces section remains the most coveted destination for designers looking to publish their projects, this issue offers several other strong editorial opportunities. In the Case Studies section, editor Alice Finney explores the private workspaces of leading interior designers—perfect for those looking to share personal or professional insights. The Inspiration section continues the work-from-home theme, showcasing design ideas that enhance productivity. Meanwhile, At Home With provides an intimate look inside Brigitta Spinocchia Freund’s countryside retreat.

Designers can also gain visibility through the Industry Index, which profiles emerging and established talents. This issue puts the spotlight on Office S&M, a Hackney-based studio known for its bold, theatrical interiors.

PR Insights for Brands

With Milan Design Week at its core, this issue of ELLE Decoration is a showcase for standout collections and rising stars. Beyond Milan, the editorial team offers creative opportunities for brands to align with editorial content that is all about innovation, sustainability, and seasonality. A key materials feature focuses on aluminium, celebrated for its recyclability and refined aesthetic. Alice Finney features brands and products from sustainable metal.

In the fabric and finishes section, the editorial team highlights the rise of denim in decoration, presenting a curated selection of products that blend fashion and interiors.

Colour trend report reflects the debut of Design Mumbai. The Mood of the Month features drawing inspiration from India's spice tones—think cumin, saffron, and turmeric—offering a rich, earthy base for summer styling.

Editorial Shoot

This month’s sole editorial photoshoot is a Handles With Care visual story. Styled by Océane Algaron and photographed by Adrien Sgandurra.

More noteworthy is the Creative Campaign, an archival gem from May 1995. Revisited in light of the issue’s home office focus, this vintage shoot explores how office furniture could be integrated into the bedroom. Photo by Rory Carnegie, style by Deborah Morant.
