Belmond unveils the Britannic Explorer, the first luxury sleeper train to operate in England and Wales, marking a new chapter in British slow travel. It is scheduled to debut in July 2025, and the route will weave along Cornwall’s coast, past the serene lakes of the Lake District, and through the rolling hills of Wales, offering an immersive journey that celebrates both heritage and contemporary British design.
Quintessentially British
Designed by Albion Nord, the train’s eighteen cabins marry heritage charm with serene modernity — sophisticated yet playfully witty. Bold, opulent fabrics, textures and patterns layer as they would in a luxurious British home, while hidden design elements surprise and delight.
The Britannic Explorer, a Belmond Train delivers pure escapism, carrying guests from urban bustle to tranquil countryside and immersing them in Britain’s natural beauty.
Natural materials such as reclaimed timber surfaces and living greenery forge a seamless link to the outdoors, allowing passengers to experience nature in comfort.
Albion Nord’s design honours British craftsmanship by blending old and new. Repurposed antiques, intricate woodwork, and period detailing meet bespoke contemporary pieces. The result is an immersive journey that feels both timeless and refreshingly alive.

Culinary Journeys
Food is integral to the experience. Onboard two dining cars, Malva and Samphire, menus are curated by Michelin‑starred chef Simon Rogan, a pioneer of sustainable British gastronomy. Ahead of launch, Rogan revealed a focus on farm‑to‑fork ingredients sourced from local producers along each route: think a vibrant Cornish barbecue lunch of St Austell mussels, clams and jig‑caught squid with seaweed, followed by classic Cornish summer berries are paired with meadowsweet and chamomile cream, offering a perfect finish.
Joining Rogan is the newly appointed Executive Head Chef, Sven‑Hanson Britt, whose résumé spans The Ritz London, New York’s Blue Hill Farm, and his own Oxeye restaurant in London. Britt’s extensive background in regenerative agriculture ensures every dish reflects the train’s commitment to seasonality and an environmentally conscious approach.

The Observation Car: A Living Bar
At the train’s heart lies the botanically inspired Observation Car — a warm, golden‑hued hideaway where guests can unwind. The space feels both social and secretive — the perfect hub for this ‘private’ railway club.
Here, cocktail hour is an alchemical affair: bartenders conjure bespoke cocktails, refined soft drinks and artisanal herbal infusions. A curated selection of small‑batch gins and craft beers showcases the finest offerings from Britain’s independent distilleries and breweries.

Wellness and Excursions
Beyond fine dining and design, the Britannic Explorer offers three‑night itineraries complete with curated excursions: private art‑gallery visits, walks with local historians and vineyard tours.
On board, a dedicated Wellness Suite provides massages, rituals and steam‑room therapies, ensuring guests arrive at each destination refreshed.
